Postcards from Nowhere

Postcards from Nowhere (2015)  is a collection of images appropriated from Google Street View depicting the closest outsides of the 11 Immigration Removal Centres in UK. The project shares its name with the non-places the images portray and aims to create awareness among the population about the prison conditions in which persons are kept although they have never been convicted for a crime. The lack of judicial oversight and the lengthy bureaucratic delays often prevent a person from being released, even if there is no evidence that the detainee will present a harm or a burden to society if allowed to remain at large while his situation is examined. Therefore, Google Street View represents the dualism of freedom and imprisonment for the IRC residents and becomes the only tool to explore the outside world.
